TMC were tasked with creating something new for the Liam Gallagher UK tour.
The show designers Squib & Dan from Cassius Creative asked for the IMAG feed to be a raw & exciting cut. A mix between good old fashioned punk and up to date technology.
TMC created a 1st for the tour.
Not only did we have our handheld minicam for the camera operator Carlos Rubio to use, it had to be wireless too.
This gave Carlos the opportunity to move around the stage independently and get in to positions no other cameraman could get to.
Having worked with the band during the last two years the trust was there for Carlos to get extremely close to the instruments. This gave the visceral, impulsive shots needed for the show.
We used a Marshall CV503WP minicamera with wide angle lens, Black magic video assist & a IDX CW3 transmitter & receiver, all powered by 2 small Sony NP F970 batteries.
HERE'S A NEW ADDITION TO OUR MINI CAMERA RANGE. WE WERE ASKED TO SUPPLY A WATERPROOF MINICAM WITH INFRA RED CAPABILITY AND ALTHOUGH THE CV225 LIPSTICK CAM IS VERY GOOD IN LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS IT WON'T SEE IN THE IR SPECTRUM SO WE CHECKED OUT THE MARSHALL CV502 WPM.
WHAT A GREAT LITTLE CAMERA, IT HAS ALL THE CONTROL OF THE CV225 AND YOU CAN CHANGE LENSES AND STILL KEEP IT WATERPROOF.
THE BEST FEATURE IS THE IR CAPABILITY THOUGH, YOU CAN SELECT AT WHAT LUMINANCE LEVEL DOES IT CHANGES TO IR, AND BACK. THERE ARE SEVERAL IR LENSES AVAILABLE ALSO.
ALTHOUGH IT'S NOT QUITE AS DISCREET AND SLIM AS THE CV225 IT'S AN EXCELENT CAMERA AND WE NOW HAVE A FEW IN STOCK.
Having just finished the Uk leg of the George Ezra tour the lipstick cameras are back in the warehouse getting a quick service before going out again for the European leg of the sold out tour.
It's been a real pleasure working with Cate and Mike from Bryte Design again. They designed a beautiful looking show and it was good fun to work on.
We used the 1.5mm on the drums as we were working in a portrait format. So using such a wide angle helps us to fill the shots with drums as well as just the drummer.
The lipstick cameras didn't miss a beat and stood up to the hammering the drums gave them.
We also fixed a lipstick cam with a 3.5mm lens onto the keyboards for one particular song which had a really long keyboard solo. The position of the camera allowed us to fill the portrait screen with the whole length of the keyboard. The 1.5mm lens would have been too wide for this shot.
We have 3 of our HD lipsticks out on the UK leg of George Ezra's sold out tour.
We were asked by Bryte Design to supply the cameras with several different lenses and clamps.
Two of them are fitted to the drum kit with a 1.5mm super wide angle and a 3.5mm standard lens and then one is fitted to the keyboard for a particular song where the keys solo happens.
They are complementing 4 manned Sony cameras and a PTZ robocam and the whole camera show is cut from FOH.
The cameras are set up every show during sound check and it only takes 15 mins to set up and frame the three cameras. Once set they are very discreet and blend into the rest of the metalwork around the drums.
We found the vibration of the drums loosens the "magic arm" clamp, so we have
upgraded the clamps and this seems to have sorted the problem.
